Session #90 · 1967–69

Speech #900188467

In the ensuing years Soviet Russian rule has been harsh. often genocidal. Countless thousands of civic and religious leaders. businessmen and farmers were exterminated during the 1920s and 1930s. those who resisted or were suspected of resisting the Russification of Ukraine. Thousands more were. and still are being. deported to other areas of the Soviet "empire." to be replaced at home by nonUkrainians. In 1956. at the 20th Congress of the Communist Party. Khrushchev boasted: Stalin had wanted to deport all Ukraintans. but there were too many of them and there was no place to which they could be deported. Terrible famine. hardship. and poverty followed these strange policies. but the spirit of free Ukraine still lives. After nearly 50 years of captivity.
