Session #90 · 1967–69

Speech #900157681

Mr. Speaker. citizens of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands would be granted the right of free entry into the United States under the provisions of a bill I introduced on October 30. 1967. Under existing law. citizens of the Trust Territory. like other aliens. may enter the United States only if a visa is first obtained. My bill. H.R. 13747. would revise this procedure for trust territory citizens and require only that they present an identity permit Issued by the High Commissioner in order to be admitted into the United States. Particular provisions of section 212 of the immigration law. however. would remain operative so as to exclude subversives and other undesirables. Mr. Speaker. over 20 years ago the United Nations confidently placed the Micronesian Islands under the trusteeship of the United States.
