Session #90 · 1967–69

Speech #900147467

Finally. on November 4. upon the hesitation by the free nations. the Kremlin invaded Hungary with its tanks. In the wake of this tragedy thousands of Hungarians fled their homeland. fearing for their lives and knowing that with the return of the Russians. liberty and freedom would be denied them. The United States did take action and opened her shores to hundreds and hundreds of homeless refugees. The valor and heroism of the Hungarian people will go down in history as one of freedoms finest hours. It is imperative that we keep in mind what the Hungarian revolutionaries fought for and what they fought against.
