Mr. Speaker. a mission of American Jewish Congress leaders visited Israel this summer to study at firsthand the new political. social. and economic problems facing the country following its lightning military victory over the Arab nations that sought to destroy the Jewish state. The mission met with Government officials. military leaders. refugee spokesmen. and Jews and Arabs from many walks of life. The American Jewish Congress group traveled extensively along the west bank of the Jordan. visited Gaza and El Arish In Sinai. and traveled from Jericho overlooking the Dead Sea as far north as Kuneitra and the Syrian heights. Their report from Israel follows: Both the government and the people of Israel seem unable fully to believe that the whole of Eretz Yisrael in its traditional borders from the Jordan to the sea and from the Gaza strip to the Golan heights is now in Jewish hands.
