Session #90 · 1967–69

Speech #900118081

I heartily agree with the Washington Post. and would like to point out that the Rural Job Development Act of 1967 could be an important factor in ending this ruraltourban migration. The distinguished Junior Senator from Kansas and I. on July 21. introduced this bill providing for tax incentives to private industry locating and expanding in lowincome rural areas and small towns and for training the poor. Advantages of this bill are ithe direct involvement of the private sector and the fact that it would require no additional Federal administrative organization. I hope the Senate will give prompt consideration to this needed legislation. Mr. President. I ask that the Washington Post editorial entitled "Rural Migrants" be printed in the RECORD.
