Session #89 · 1965–67

Speech #890273587

Castro is looking down his nose for scapegoats while the problem lies at the other end of that nose. Cuban sugar production. the mainstay of the nations economy. has faltered to the point that the country will be hard pressed to satisfy its meager commitments with other Communist countries. Meat and vegetables are rationed beyond belief. The flight of Cuban refugees into the United States is one story of despair after another. When Castro admitted that among thousands of agricultural directors there is rarely one technician who has graduated from a technical institution. he also admits the failure of his educational system. By his own admission. many of these administrators have the scholastic background of second- and thirdgraders.
