The dignity and integrity of the individual must and will prevail. It is. -therefore. incumbent upon the free world and the United States as the leader of the free world to chart a course that will provide political and moral support for the captive peoples of central and eastern Europe as well as to evoke social and political concessions from the Communist governments through economic and political pressures. We as a nation are indebted for the contributions made by our immigrants from Eastern Europe. Indeed. our strength and viability as a nation are directly related to the diverse complexion of our society. We cannot. we must not forget our origins.
