Session #89 · 1965–67

Speech #890225455

The outbreak of the Second World War was used as an excuse for invading these states. and in June 1940. the Russians began their systematic reign of terror. Leading political figures and intellectuals were among the first victims. Those that were not immediately killed or imprisoned were soon deported from their homeland to the vast remote regions of Russia. The terror soon reached down to the poorer peasant and working people until the period of midJune when the infamous June 1314 period saw more than 100.000 people deported from their homes. This is indeed a sad event to commemorate. but we do the victims a disservice if we simply stop there. We must determine to derive meaning from their sacrifice. their suffering has a deeper significance. and merits more than just speeches or gatherings.
