Session #89 · 1965–67

Speech #890224865

Farming was the main industry when the town was settled. but in the early 19th century shoe manufacturing became important in the economic life of the community. In time other manufacturing firms came to Hudson. and today its factories produce textile products. machinery. and leather products. Through the years. Hudsons growing industry attracted many Portuguese. French. Greek. Russian. Jewish. and Italian immigrants who have made important contributions to the town. Hudson has a long and proud history. and I am pleased today to join with the people who live there in commemoration of its 100th anniversary. A weeklong celebration is presently underway. which will end on Sunday with a parade and other special events.
