Session #89 · 1965–67

Speech #890216114

We can bestow upon them no higher honor for the great service they are rendering our Nation. There is ample precedent for my proposal. Similar legislation was enacted previously. enabling aliens who served honorably in the Armed Forces of the United States during World War II and the Korean war to qualify for naturalization. whether or not they had been admitted to the United States as permanent residents. These laws were enacted on March 27. 1942. to affect veterans of World War II. and on June 30. 1953. affecting veterans of the Korean hostilities. Having extended the privilege of naturalization to veterans of all previous conflicts in recent history. I believe veterans of the Vietnam conflict should also be accorded these privileges. I trust that the Congress will speedily and expeditiously enact this very meritorious legislation.
