Today that youthful. vigorous. dynamic. and democratic state is the living embodiment of the centuriesold undying faith of the Jews. Israeli leaders and citizens. with the generous aid and constant encouragement of world Jewry. have made the State of Israel a model democratic state in the Middle East. They have also made it a safe haven. and a happy home. for more than 1.500.000 Jewish refugees. These new citizens. with their kinsmen there. have recreated their ancient homeland. With energy and optimism. and with boundless enthusiasm. their labors have turned much of the desert regions of the country into fertile and cultivable land. and the hills of Galilee into blossoming orchards.
