Who would have thought that we would have had an island barrier? The limit of our ambition was to operate diplomatically across the Pacific. from Honolulu. to the island of Guam. It was almost a phobia with us. But we now suggest that we are an Asiatic power. That seems to me to be entirely unwise. The two most unwise things about it are. first. that we seem to believe that white men. fighting on the land mass of Asia. can change the hearts and minds of the people of that area to the direction in which we would like to see them go.
