North Vietnam and China. have contemptously rejected the Presidents offer to negotiate. This being true. the hope that the war might be settled by negotiation seems to have degenerated into an empty dream. As a consequence. it seems that the United States must either fight or withdrawa withdrawal being equivalent to surrender. As I see it. the United States cannot afford to withdraw. If it does so. all the Asiatic countries. including India. will fall under Red Chinese domination. and all the free world will lose whatever confidence its people may have in us. I hesitate to think what this would portend for the freedom of Malaysia. the Philippines. Australia.
