Session #89 · 1965–67

Speech #890167503

If you will look at it for a moment. this great high tide that washed ashore this year as a result of Democratic leadership in the Congress and in the White House has resolved most of the great issues that have been before the American people in this whole postwar period since the end of World War II. It was Harry Truman himself. two decades ago. who first talked about or sketched in what we now call medicare. Who said there was a need to change our immigration laws and make them more equitable _and more Democratic? Who talked about aid to education. and the need for civil rights in this country? The American Congress.
