Speech #890164363

Cannery tomato acreage in the MendotaFirebaughHuron area is expected to rise from approximately 3.000 acres in 1965 to between 15.000 and 20.000 acres in 1966. Exodus to Mexico: The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports little movement of American farmers to Mexico other than members of religious groups who have immigrated to that country to become citizens. The Agriculture Department pointed out that some American capital has moved to Mexico in the past couple of years for processing and freezing plants but there are no facts linking this movement with termination of Public Law 78 on December 31. 1964. Price increases: Both the retail and wholesale prices of fresh fruits and vegetables have remained generally steady in 1965.
