As jurist. legislator. attorney. and .community leader. he devoted his life to principles which contributed to the best interest of Hawaii and its people. Born in Honolulu of Japanese immigrants. he was one of the early leaqers in the fight to prove that Americans of Japanese ancestry were loyal to their country. the United States. prior to and during the trying years of World War II. After the wax. he won a seat in the territorial senate and rose to become the first person of oriental ancestry to be chosen president of that legislative body. As chief justice of the infant State of Hawaii.
