More than anything else. the 1st session of the 89th has shattered these myths. It showed that Congress is not ruled by a coalition of southern Democrats and conservative Republicans and can respond to the needs of the Nation. Just look at the legislative landmarks that came out of this session in education. in medical care for the aged. in voting rights for the Negro. in reform of the immigration laws. to name a few accomplishments among many. This is precisely the same point the following editorial in todays New York Times makes. and. therefore. I would like to call it to the attention of my colleagues:
