Session #89 · 1965–67

Speech #890144657

Speaker. there now exists a confusing and inequitable customs inspections policy along our national borders. Operators of small aircraft and maritime vessels who enter the country during other than weekday business hours are being caught in a strange game of chance that frequently proves more costly than entertaining. The element of chance involves who will check them across the border. a customs officer or an immigration officer. The winners of this game. those inspected by an immigration officer. are charged nothing. But the losers. those inspected by a customs officer. are charged for the officers overtime wages. That cost can be as high as $60.
