Session #89 · 1965–67

Speech #890127609

Mr. President. I am happy to note that at long last the immigration bill has been approved by the Committee on the Judiciary by a substantial majority and that it will be reported by the committee to the Senate a week from today. I think I should take this occasion. speaking as a part of the leadership. to express my thanks to the distinguished Senator from Connecticut . who changed his vote although his principles remain the same and he is opposed to the reapportionment measure. to allow that measure to be reported out of committee and onto the calendar. I think this increases the prospects of bringing about an adjournment at a more reasonable time. although that time has already been extended too long as far as I am concerned.
