I would thank the gentleman for bringing this matter to our attention. I want to commend the committee for this language that they have provided. It reads as follows: For expenses necessary for the performance of such functions as the Secretary of Labor deems necessary to assure. in connection with the admission of nonimmigrant aliens under the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1184) for employment In agriculture. that maximum efforts are made to recruit and retain agricultural workers for available job opportunities. that domestic workers are given preference in employment over alien workers. and that the employment of alien workers does not adversely affect the wages and working conditions of workers in this country. $1.723.000. I know that Members on the gentlemans side of the aisle are as interested in this problem as we are on this side of the aisle. The language of the bill and the report provides the Secretary with certainly more authority and flexibility than he has previously had.
