Mr. Speaker. the arduous and dedicated work of the House Judiciary Committee has resulted in an outstanding immigration bill which makes longneeded and longawaited corrections in our immigration law. Most important of all. this new bill eliminates the obnoxious national origins quota system. which since 1924 has been an affront to the sense of justice and fairness that is basic to the thinking not only of Americans but of freedomloving people all over the world. We in the 89th Congress have passed much constructive legislation recognizing and meeting the needs and wants of the American people. The passage of the new immigration bill. which will soon come to the House for a vote. will further enhance the great record of the 89th Congress and will have the wholehearted approval of democraticthinking people all over the world.
