Stevenson as Ambassador to the United Nations. brings to this body the same dedication to world peace and the same understanding that in this world we must recognize and respect the individual dignity and the inherent right of people to govern themselves in their own way. From his boyhood days. Arthur Goldberg knew what it was to struggle and work in order to succeed in his aspirations. By his own initiative and efforts. he graduated from Northwestern University with one of the highest scholastic records achieved at the university. The son of Jewish immigrants. he rose from poverty to a position of national and international eminence. All his life he has been guided by the precepts and principles of individual freedom and the inherent dignity of man. It is on these cornerstones that the United States has grown and prospered.
