So I hope that we will have an end to the continued repetition by some of the ultraliberal labor. church. social. and Government personnel of the completely false claim that Congress has given a mandate for the termination of the importation of needed supplemental agricultural workers from adjoining foreign sources from which such workers are not only available. but where their employment is a boon to friendly countries adjoining us and a badly needed help to their economy.. The fact is that Congress has continued the mandate given by the general immigration law. Public Law 414. under which the producers of agricultural crops in this Nationparticularly perishable crops at peak seasons of their needhave a right to expect the administrative Federal officials to aid such agricultural producers not only in securing these needed supplemental workers. but in having such assurance ahead of time that such needed workers will be available at the time of need so that there will be no reduction in plantings of the crops required to feed the 194 million consumers in this Nation who will continue to look to our producers to supply the wholesome food products which are supplied by the growers of fruits. vegetables. berries. and other crops for which the domestic workers have not shown in sufficient numbers either the willingness or the ability to supply the necessary work.
