In June Soviet occupation of these countries was complete. and a few weeks later all three were incorporated into the Soviet Union. Thus was brought about the seizure of the three Baltic countries by the Soviet Union and the enslavement of some 5 million peoples in these countries. Of these innocent peoples. several hundred thousands were summarily arrested and deported to distant parts of the Soviet Union. most of whom have probably died in prisonlabor camps. I am happy to say that the Government of the United States and the people of this country have never recognized the seizure of these countries .by the Soviet Union as valid. We still recognize the old. legally elected governments of these countries and continue to extend them diplomatic recognition.
