Unfortunately their worse apprehensions proved correct. Early in 1940 Stalins ruthless henchmen imposed upon them totalitarian communism and then annexed these countries to the Soviet Union. At the same time Stalins minions caused the arrest of several hundred thousand Baltic nationals and these were exiled to distant parts of Asiatic Russia. This mass deportation. this inhuman act. was carried out in mid1940 under abominable and indescribable misery. People were uprooted from their homes and in freight cars shipped off to perpetual exile. All this was done 25 years ago. and today the anniversary of that event is being observed with due solemnity.
