Although all of the Baltic States remained plainly hostile to Russia. the Lithuanians were especially so. and when the GermanRussian war began in June 1941. the Lithuanians. including many who were in the Russian Army. rebelled against Russia. Between June 14 and June 21. 1941. more than 34.000 persons were deported to Siberia and the Arctic. In 1948 and 1949. about 10 percent of the Lithuania population was deported to Siberia.
