We found in Louisiana. however. that when we repealed the poll tax. registration Increased by approximately 65 percent. My guess is that any State which repeals the poll tax will find a heavy increase in its registration. It tends to discriminate against those who are poor. My guess is that if the bill is constitutional at alland I am not positive that it isshould we repeal the poll tax. it would be just as constitutional as an effort to strike down the literacy tests might be.
