Under the Public Health Service program 60 projects have been set up to provide medical treatment for illness or injury. immunizations. casefinding and treatment of communicable diseases. prenatal and postnatal care. and other preventive and curative services. This program is extremely important to the wellbeing of about 1 million migrant agricultural workers and the country as a whole benefits from any reduction in the number of people carrying communicable diseases. H.R. 2986 also provides for an extension of the program of grants to the States for general health services. mental health services. radiological health services. dental health services. and health services for the chronically ill and aged. The extension is limited to 1 year because a study of these services is now underway in the Public Health Service and a review of legislative needs is being undertaken in cooperation with the association of State and territorial health officers. and the State and territorial mental health authorities.
