He was raised in a scholarly atmosphere and received his degree as doctor of philosophy from Charles University in Prague. Stefanik went to France in 1902 to live in freedom and after years of struggle he achieved great distinction as an astronomer and did valuable research in Africa. the Americas. Europe. and the South Seas. General Stefanik became a naturalized French citizen and joined the French Air Force in 1914 when war came to Europe. His distinguished record resulted in him receiving new honors. and he attained the rank of major general. He joined in the Czechoslovakia National Council with Edouard Blenes and Thomas G.
