Mr. President. April 24 marked the 50th anniversary of the mass slaughter and deportation of the Armenians from their homeland. On that date in 1915. a systematic plan of massacre of the Armenian Nation was set in motion by the Government of Turkey. Between the years 191518 more than 1 million Armenians lost their lives and another 1 million were permanently displaced. Untold wealth in properties were plundered or destroyed. The 50th anniversary of the Turkish genocide of the Armenian people brings to mind not only the selfsacrifice of this virile people in the interest of virtuous government and human rights but also the important contributions made by the Armenians to the Allied war effort as "the Little Ally" of the West.
