That small committee accounted for more than 50 percent of all the bills enacted by the Congress each year. Today my good friend from Mississippi makes a claim which is true. His committee now handles all these claims and. in addition -thereto. immigration matters. If we add all the measures that go through the Judiciary Committee and come before the Senate. we find that the Judiciary Committee of the Senate handles in excess of 50 percent of the legislation introduced in the Senate. But in order to do so we have provided a special subcommittee. on which perhaps three or four lawyers serve. with quite a few clerical employees. The same holds true for the Immigration Subcommittee. The subcommittees are well staffed. In addition. in order to facilitate action on this legislation. much information is obtained from the Justice Department.
