The congregation was formed in 1939 in New York City to establish a congregation which. within the scope of American Jewry. would carry forward the ideals of liberal Judaism. Today the Congregation Habonim has become a wellestablished religious group with a membership of over 1.000 families. It maintains its own temple and commurity center in the Borough of Manhattan and another community center in Rego Park. N.Y. I take pleasure in extending my congratulations to the Congregation Habonim on its splendid achievements and am happy to place in the RECORD a short r6sum6 of the history and development of this group which has succeeded in overcoming the hardships entailed in immigrating to this country.
