America won its independence with strong help from nations across the seas. Let us not now forget the people of Poland. Hungary. and the other captive nations in their own hour of misery. but let our assistance be to the open hand of freedom and not to the closed fist of dictatorship. domination. and tyranny. The socalled relaxation by Khrushchev has drawn a cloak over the repressions. mass deportations and murders of the Stalin regime. But the people of Budapest in Hungary and the Poles in Poznan have no misconceptions. They remember the "butcher of Budapest" for what he was in 1956. and what he Is today.
