Mr. Speaker. we like to think that the barbarities of man no longer exist and that society is now motivated by considerations of justice and humanity. However. acts of the utmost cruelty and savagery sometimes still burst forth. A case in point is that of the deportation of thousands of helpless Estonians. Lithuanians. and Latvians in June 1941 by Russian Communists. These people. liberated from Russian domination in the aftermath of World War I. had enjoyed their hardwon freedom and had focused their attention on developing their own countries. They wanted nothing more than to be left alone. but they could not exist independent of the designs of the two great powers.
