Session #88 · 1963–65

Speech #880236067

The low number of the bill indicates at what an early date in this Congress the proposal was introduced but we have not even had a hearing on it yet. I want to state here and now that I intend to do everything I can to have this measure considered and approved by the Judiciary Committee and the Senate before we adjourn this year. All America owes a great deal to the Italian people who have immigrated to this country to work. live. raise their families. and become an integral and important part of our society. A national holiday on October 12 would remind us of our debt to this courageous man and to the 12 million persons of Italian origin or descent who have consistently contributed so much to our country through the years. I hope the Senate will approve S. 108 soon.
