Session #88 · 1963–65

Speech #880233898

It appears to me that it has been to the benefit of the Nation. Whenever people are denied work opportunities because of race. religion. or ethnic origin. it is not only the individual that is injured. but it is the Nation. America has enjoyed many great scientific advances because we opened our doors to immigrants from other countries. immigrants who could not find freedom to live and work until they came to this country. I am of the opinion that some of the great discoveries yet to come will be because America kept its door open. because America kept its mind open. because America kept its heart open. I am of the opinion also that when industries deny jobs to people because of race. they really deny opportunity to themselves.
