One finds. too. in Israel. the Hebrew language being spoken. Preserved mainly by religious scholars and for religious rites. Hebrew. once considered a dead language. has been revived as the official language of the country. With the 80some nationalities which comprise the population of Israel. it was necessary to find a common tongue. one which everyone could understand. Although thousands of immigrants come to Israel each year. bringing with them their own language. the Government has established special schools to teach these new settlers their mother tongue. Hebrew. Throughout the presentday Israel are the place names with which a Bible reader is familiar.
