Session #88 · 1963–65

Speech #880197577

We are just more or less caught between two prongs. and our job will not be a happy one either way. On January 22 I took the floor of the House to expose a false charge placed against me which appeared in the New York Times on January 14. That false charge painted me as the blocker in Congress of pending immigration legislation. At that time I promised to name the blocker if he continued his efforts to prevent the joint committee from carrying out its functions as established by law. I had no other course open but to put the facts before the Subcommittee on Legislative Appropriations.
