Yet despite all the sacrifices. the young Byelorussian state was unable to preserve Its independence against the onslaught of Bolshevik forces. In its place the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic became an administrative arm of the Moscow government. Today. March 25. is being celebrated by Byelorussians throughout the free world as a symbol of their national aspirations. Americans of Byelorussian descent as well as Byelorussian immigrants in this country are also celebrating this day. What does it mean to live under the dominion of Communist Soviet Russia?
