These years were made very difficult and troubled because of the constant Soviet propaganda and subversive activity designed to smother the nations freedom. Shortly after the outbreak of World War II. Soviet forces overran the country and destroyed its freedom. Over the years the 3 million people of this unhappy state have kept alive the hope of liberty and independence in spite of harsh restrictions. deportations. suppression of religion. and other repressive measures. Their friends and relatives here are helping to keep alive this hope that in the not too distant future. Lithuania will once again become free and independent.
