I wish to join with my colleagues in recognition of the 46th anniversary of Lithuanian Independence Day. The Lithuanian nation gained its independence on February 16. 1918. and remained free for 22 years. then in 1940 this small nation was ruthlessly overrun by the Soviet Union. The Communists never again permitted Lithuania to return to freedom. instead they have deported. persecuted. and murdered Lithuanians in an effort to remove all trace of this freedomloving nation. This is a prime example of the Communists method in dealing with smaller natiols. However. the United States rightfully -has refused to recognize this brutal incorporation of Lithuania into the Soviet Union.
