Session #88 · 1963–65

Speech #880162471

Instead of having one or two clerks doing the work. as was the case before 1946. the staff of the committee now includes a number of experts. such as lawyers. who look into the questions involved. Someone from the Judiciary Department often assists also. So the cost to the Government of adjusting claims has increased. I do not know how much that increase has been. but it has been increased many times. Another category in which quite a number of bills are presented by the Judiciary Committee is that of naturalization cases. These cases relate to persons who come into the country under special circumstances. A large number of individual cases are submitted to the Senate each year.
