I was at the White House meeting on January 13. 1964. as reported in the New York Times article to which I have referred. President Johnson informed me at that time he had assigned Mr. Feldman to immigration matters and that Mr. Feldman was to cooperate with me in my capacity as chairman of the Joint Committee on Immigration and Nationality Policy and as chairman of the Subcommittee on Immigration and Nationality of the House Judiciary Committee. It was only natural that I should turn to Mr. Feldman for a clarification of the false charge in the New York Times story.
