Speech #880110503

If you think about our problem. if you put yourself in our place. you will understand. I want to mention two aspects of this problem which are seldom considered. Other speakers will discuss other reasons for extending the bracero program which are even more compelling. Housing and schooling are problems of the migrant and the rural community. These do not affect the farmer or the allied industries or the consumer directly. But if the 12.000 braceros in my area are eliminated. we will need 12.000 more family homes almost immediately. this would double our present housing. and they would be occupied only 3 or 4 months of each year.
