Mr. President. the recent immigration legislation introduced in the Senate. of which I am privileged to be a cosponsor. represents the most practical and human approach to this problem in many years. In its recognition of practical and of human needs. the legislation is good for our country. In Its abolition of the national origins quota system. the legislation recognizes the fundamental principle that all Americans are equal in dignity. no matter from what nationality or national stock they come. This legislation and the Presidents message have been greeted with extremely widespread support in my home State of Massachusetts. which knows as well as any the longrange benefits of immigration. Every argument against enlarged immigration that is being made today was made in Massachusetts 40 and 50 years ago. Yet our Commonwealth has become great because the Irish. the Italians. the Poles. the Greeks. the Portuguese. and so many other nationality groups were allowed to immigrate. In building a better life for themselves. they built a better society for all. I ask unanimous consent that editorials and articles in favor of the bill from the Boston Herald and the Boston Globe be printed at this point in the RECORD.
