Session #88 · 1963–65

Speech #880081917

Good human relationships are even more important in this era of greater speed and awesome power. We have always felt that the people of Hawaii could contribute much. especially in helping to bridge the gap between the East and Westbetween peoples of different color and creeds. The granting of statehood to the people of Hawaii. the majority of whom are of Asiatic descent. I am sure gave a new dimension to American democracy in the eyes of the world. We are proud of Hawaiis wonderful climate and natural beauties. but as a State we are infinitely prouder of our long history of harmonious race relations.
