Session #88 · 1963–65

Speech #880080925

Chairman. I take this time to ask. particularly the gentlewoman from Ohio who I know has firsthand experience and information on this subject. this question. This section covers. does it not. the socalled contribution to the Palestine refugees? And if I am correct in this. then may I simply call the attention of the House to the fact that this is a problem which is at the core of the whole problem in the Middle East. We will never get peace in the Middle East. I think it is fair to say. until we find a solution to the Palestine refugee problem. I feel rather strongly that inasmuch asI think again I am rightwe are giving 70 percent of that fund here in the United States. it is time that we looked somewhere for its more effective use. We may have to drive a bargain to solve this admittedly very difficult but nevertheless important problem if we are not to have a tinder box in the Middle East. I would like to ask the gentlewoman from Ohio if she does not agree that perhaps we should do something. and I hope through this committee. to step up a solution to that Palestine refugee problem.
