Session #88 · 1963–65

Speech #880070216

Their factual basis. their knowledgeability. their reasoning is never given. I talked and corresponded with one cleric who testified at the subcommittee hearings. It turned out that he is opposed to the cruel migrant family lifenot the bracero program. He had observed. in his small parish. the deplorable plight of the migrant farm family and thought the bracero employed elsewhere suffered similarly. I think he would now agree with me that we should minimize rather than maximize the nomadic existence of the farm workers families. It is my understanding that some religioussounding committees have passed resolutions without conducting hearingsor if hearings were held only opponents of the bracero program were invited or heard.
