Session #88 · 1963–65

Speech #880067950

I wish to commend the distinguished Senator from Michigan for his leadership in the field of immigration. Heretofore. he and I have joined in the introduction of other bills dealing with immigration problems. One of themSenate bill 747. which now is before ushas had the approval of a large number of organizations. and we have been doing our best to have some action taken in this field. I am very pleased that the executive branch has now made these proposals and am sympathetic to the approach in this bill. The fact that the Chief Executive has now supported efforts at immigration reform is very important and I shall certainly exert every possible effort to have such legislation enacted at this session. Mr. President.
