According to this logic. any significant reduction in the number of braceros would mean a corresponding increase in the number of wetbacks. During the past few years the number of braceros has been reduced sharplyin 1962 the number of braceros was less than half of the 1956 total. Yet there has been no great increase in the number of illegal entrants into this country. Why not? Because the United States has improved its enforcement of the immigration laws. I submit that we could eliminate the whole bracero program and still not have a great wetback problem. All we would need to do is see that the law is enforced.
